Looking for a New Pocket Digicam?
So for a very long time, I've been looking for a pocket digital camera to pair with my big and bulky digital SLR. But pocket digicams have always had such trade-offs that I could always convince myself to carry my big SLR and lenses instead.
I also tend to get lots of folks asking for recommendations on cameras. That request is easy for me to do with SLRs since that's what I shoot with, but I also keep an eye on what's new in the digicam world. I read both offical reviews from commercial sites as well as those from individuals on forums. Lately I've been hearing about a new pocket digicam from Fuji, the F30.
And I have never read reviews like this.
Both official reviewers as well as the everyday end user love this camera. It is snappy (very little shutter lag), has great shot-to-shot times for when there's a lot of action, is pretty small, has the most important manual controls, has great high-ISO performance (you might not even know what that means but trust me, it's really important), and even has a 600 shot battery life! And to cap it all off, the one thing that is most important: printed photos look fantastic. Never have I seen so many people talk about a digicam like this. I just might finally have found my pocket digicam.
So if you're looking for a new pocket digicam, the Fuji F30 is likely exactly what you're looking for. At currently a street price of right around $300, it's a good value, too.

Congrats, Jake
You know, from the time this blog began on November 5th, 2002 the content has changed considerably. It has changed from personal postings and a side of bad poetry to a site primarily about my semi-respectable photography with a few rather non-personal blogs. And you know, I like the change. So it's going to stay that way. I won't really post much of what's really going on in my life, but I will post a few random details every now and then.
Like the fact that my good friend Jacob just got engaged. Timing is funny, you know. The last time I was home in October for Rusty's wedding, I got together with some guys I grew up with, Jake being one of them. The only married one, Travis, gave his estimation on when the next of us would be married. I can't remember if Jake was after Ryan, but I don't remember Jake being first. And I remember Jake agreeing with Travis, since he'd not found anyone that interested him in a very long time.
Congrats Jake. I'm not surprised in the least. You've always had wisdom and character beyond your years, and I can't wait to meet her.
