Kim and Chris' Wedding

New photos of Kim and Chris' Wedding are now online. I was quite happy with the results. It's just a few of my favorites from the day, as I don't yet have access to the photos I shot from the ceremony. I'll update those in a couple of days.

This post was originally combined with today's YouTube post, but I thought perhaps the subjects should be in separate blog entries... :)

YouTube

Okay, I was reading over Bill Simmons' (also known as The Sport Guy) writeup about YouTube, the viral video website. He has a link to ESPN's 10 best baseball fights of all time. I mean wow. That's a lot of fun to watch, especially the #1 fight with Nolan Ryan.

Phone Booth for Cell Phones

Sick of people yammering loudly on their cell phone in public places? Enter the phone booth for cell phones.

Crossing my fingers, legs, and eyes hoping these take off.

A Birth, a Wedding, and a trip to China

Two bits of news here. First, my sister had her baby a couple of weeks ago. So please welcome Addison Elisabeth to, um, this existence? Mom and baby are doing quite well, and my sister even did this whole thing at home with a midwife and no drugs. Yep, midwives are still around, as are women having babies with no drugs. From what I've been told, my sister was a real trooper and was running errands just two days after delivery. She's always been crazy tough like that. :) You can find some photos and videos here:
bobandelisabeth.org

And on Saturday my long time friend Kim got married. I was honored when she asked me to be the photographer. I have previously shot several weddings, but this was the first wedding that my partner Lukas and I have shot together. Things worked quite smoothly, and we shot somewhere in the range of 3500-4000 photos. That's approximately one photo every 13 seconds during the 13 hour day. When the photos are processed, I'll provide a link. It was a gruelling day, but it was satisfying to be working on my feet, not sitting on my rear end typing into a computer. You know. Like I am now.

For some time now, I've been thinking of taking a 2 week vacation this Fall, but I just didn't know where. Well, I think it's settled. I'm going to China. It has been far too long since I've been there, and I cannot wait to return. I'll be meeting with some folks, and if things work out like I hope, I might just move there permanently. Looks like it's time to poke around at Mandarin again. The language, not the oranges.

No Phone, No Phone

Lost me phone on Wednesday. IHOP ate it. Made me think of a Cake song:

No phone no phone

Shaking quaking
Waking me when I'm asleep
Never lets me go too deep
Summons me with just one beep
The price we pay is steep

I've been on fire
And yet I've still stayed frozen
So deep in the night
My smooth contemplations will always be broken
My deepest concerns will stay buried and unspoken
No I don't have any change but here's a few subway tokens
No phone No phone I just want to be alone today

If you need me, email me. That's probably quickest.

My Super Ex-Girlfriend

Andy and I were talking last night about whether females could indeed be stalkers. It's easy to understand why guy stalkers are scary. They could hurt someone. But a female stalker really doesn't have much in the way of teeth. I mean, what could she do, call incessantly? That's nothing a new phone number couldn't change. Crazy female stalkers just really aren't that scary.

Unless she's a super-hero.

I finally got around to watching the trailer for "My Super Ex-Girlfriend." I've been told the premise by some other folks, and was intrigued. It appears to indeed be about a guy who breaks up with his girlfriend, only to find out she has super powers. A lot of them apparently. Unfortunately for him, one of them is not rational thought.

Ahh, Missouri, how I miss thee

Just ran across this fun little story about a puppy in Missouri and a brand new owner that was distraught when it passed away.

Actually, she beat the breeder over the head with the dead Chihuahua. That's my home state, folks.

Since CNN usually takes the story down after a while, here's the full text.

Cops: Breeder hit with dead Chihuahua

Thursday, June 8, 2006; Posted: 12:31 p.m. EDT (16:31 GMT)

ST. PETERS, Missouri (AP) -- A woman angry that her new puppy had died pushed her way into a dog breeder's home and repeatedly hit her on the head with the dead Chihuahua, authorities said.

The 33-year-old woman told police she had taken the puppy to a veterinarian, who said it was only 4 weeks old and needed to be returned to its mother. But before she could return the puppy, it died.

Early Wednesday, the woman went to the breeder's home, pushed her way inside and began fighting with the breeder as she tried to make her way to the basement to get another puppy, police said.

The breeder wrestled the woman out of her house to the front porch, where the woman then hit the breeder over the head numerous times with the dead puppy, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported, citing police.

As the woman drove away, she waved the dead puppy out of the car's sunroof and yelled threats at the breeder, police said. She later called the breeder and threatened her and her family, according to court records.

Police said they are considering felony burglary and misdemeanor assault charges against the woman.

Blogcards

So there's this guy named Hugh Macleod, and he invented this thing called "Blogcards". That's what you see above. His art, and I call it that confidently, is amazing. Basically, Hugh draws cartoons on the back of business cards. But he does it with such style. And I'm also a tremendous fan of the biting quality. Have been for some time now.

Funny thing is, he's also a marketing guy (ahem, Greg). Has some very interesting ideas on the future of marketing, and he's had good success from what I can tell. But that's not his genius. The blogcards are.

You can find plenty more blogcards at "gapingvoid." You can find some of his best here.

Photos and Phones

Thanks to everyone who emailed their guesses as to which photos were chosen. In somewhat a surprise to me, turns out these were the ones chosen:

Yep, the cartwheel was not one of the finalists. I suspect it had something to do with the categories. The cartwheel was entered into the "Children" category, whose finalists were mostly closeups of faces. The photo from Malibu beach was a finalist in the "Sunsets" category, and the Getty photo was a finalist in the "People" category.

Particularly weak were the finalists of the "Architecture" category. I think my Empire State NYC photo could have fared well.

On a completely different topic, there's something I've noticed at work here at Fidelity. It seems that management is fond of checking voicemail over the speakerphone. This means when they punch in their PIN to access their messages, the key presses are quite audible. Now, I don't have perfect pitch, but I've always had a knack for picking up phone numbers from the tones. So far I have managed to try not to figure out any PINs, but everytime I hear it I am astounded.

Fidelity Photo Contest 2006

It looks like the annual Fidelity Photo Contest has come around again. Each year about this time, Fidelity asks for their employees to submit up to three of their photos for the contest. The committee picks the finalists, 10 photos for 10 categories, and then they let the employees vote for their favorites.

Two years ago was the last time I entered, and I ended up winning third place in their "Cityscapes and Street Scenes" category. You can see the photo and read about it in this old entry. Then I found out last year that my winning photo was going to be used in the 2006 Fidelity Calendar.

So I entered three photos again this year. Found out today that two of them were selected for the finals. Can you guess which two of these were chosen?

I'll find out towards the end of June if any of mine won.
